The Class 442's - General Pictures Gallery

Just a few pages dedicated to the Plastic Pigs in their general day to day life of carrying passengers from A to B. Unfortunatley most of these numbers are not known the same with the time these were taken. But from memory I can have a good idea of when.

Two class 47's are seen pulling a NSE liveried 442 along the causeway at Poole / Baiter Park at an unspecified time.

An unidentified Wessie streaks along doing its thing.

This shot typical of the late 80's depicts a 442 on a Weymouth - Waterloo service whilst a 47 pulls in (quite possibly the Edinburgh Sleeper) to platform 2 to enable its run round.

Who said Slammer's and pigs don't mix? an unidentified 442 sits next to 1238 at Poole.

1238 again this time arriving at Poole whilst another unidentified 442 is heading for Weymouth. This would put this photograph around 1988 - 1990.

Another mystery pig shoots across Baiter with a service to Weymouth.

The original design for the center coach was 2 luggage areas either side of the guards compartment. but due to rationalisation of the Red Star parcels service from unit 2416 one side of the luggage area was removed and a "lounge" area, known affectionately as the "snug" nowadays was built, with re work being done on the previous 15 Wessex Electrics disused luggage areas as and when the units entered works.

An unidentified 442 in SWT livery is getting attention at Bournemouth to its wind screen wipers from some fitters presumably from Bournemouth depot.

Another unidentified 442 at Bournemouth with a service to presumably Weymouth.

I think this is 2401 at the first Bournemouth open day around March 1988.

2408 on #6 road at Bournemouth T&RSMD. This was the road between the maintenance shed and the cleaning shed. This was also where they emptied the waste tanks as well.

An unidentified NSE 442 streaming along having just left Dorchester South with a service to Weymouth.

A 442 in NSE livery approaches Poole as it rounds the bend at Holes Bay with a Weymouth - Waterloo service.

New Milton for this shot of a SWT stamped pig in the early morning sun.

This shot would be not far from when the 442's entered revenue service. As the scaffolding is still up on the passenger footbridge as well as the hoarding around the New Station and the rather clean PIS destination matrix on the front of the pig (above the gangway connector). I expect the DDOA would have something to say about the height of those letters!!!

An unidentified 5Wes makes its way past a stabled semi at Sterte, Poole on March 20th 2006

Back to the late 80's early 90's now. With 60 foot track sections stacked in the yard like Hornby Track a NSE liveried 442 slows for the stop at Poole. the track was for the Swanage Railway extension that was being undertaken.

A NSE 5Wes brings in a terminating service from Waterloo into platform 1. The Dot Matrix destination boards were short lived due to various (including and other soft fleshy)items hitting them during their travels between destinations.
