Holton Heath Up Main Renewal 12th February 2005

Six months after the last batch of major engineering works. The engineering circus comes to town for the next 6 weekends. The "Jointed" up and down mainline's between Holton Heath & Wareham are being replaced. Below is the story in pics. Please note some of these photos were taken at night so some of them are not the very best quality.

First up 66011 on the 6Z24 23:10 Eastleigh Yard - Hamworthy, waits at Poole for permission to enter the possession site. Although the works were being done at Holton Heath the possession was started at Poole ( due to it being a full time manned signal box unlike Hamworthy's.) This was hauling loaded ballast and small open wagon's for scrap. The total weight of this train was in excess of 1000 tons.

66128 was the second to arrive 01:00 on the 23:47 6Z25 EHY to HY. This was hauling 15 Yellow Network Rail JNA's.

66056 arrives @ 01:14 with the 6Z26 EHY - HY. This had flat wagons loaded with concrete sleepers and 2 OBA open wagons loaded with the necessary bits for the rails. + a KWA flat wagon for diggers to use and travel back to Eastleigh. This was my only "kop" for the weekend. 58 more red sheds needed

66232 approaches the possession start at Poole with the 6Z27 00:40 EHY - HW service. This mainly consisted of 10 Side tipping ballast wagons 1 FNA an empty flat wagon and a full JNA, a loaded KWA flat truck.

66210 on the 6Z28 EHY - HY @ 02:19. This train consisted of 10 JNA's loaded with ballast and 5 empty ones for spoil.

The second time this month and only the third time a GBRf 66 had visited Poole. 66701 Whitemoor draws into Poole with the 6Z10 02:00 EHY - HY @ 03:35. This had 15 loaded JNA wagons with ballast.

In total there were 4 GBRf locos in this possession. 66701 ( above),66704,73204 & 73205. This was the first time that GBRf had been used on an engineering possession not alone the first time west of Poole.

These were the better pics of the 10 of 66701 that I took, unfortunately about 5 minutes before this loco turned up it started to rain. You wouldn't believe how cold it got and wet I got with in 5 minutes!!!!
I decided to call it a day after this loco turned up. I was tired , wet and cold and needed my bed.

One of the many JNA's that came through Poole over the weekend.

66199 @ Holton Heath. Although this was the last train down, it was the first train back. It's time tabled departure from Hamworthy was 19:03, unfortunately the last wagon in the consist was seen going North through Bournmouth at 17:15!!!!! © James Henley
