Holton Heath June 7th & 8th 2008
The second round of major works happened again between Hamworthy and Holton Heath stations. Mainly relaying of old jointed track on the down Waterloo - Weymouth mainline. Due to the nature of the privately owned land surrounding the work site access was not for the general public, so from 23:30 Friday night - 04:30 Saturday morning the bottom of platform 1 at Poole was my residence. Video will be appearing here shortly as well as available on DVD to purchase. Price includes Postage & packing and cost of material ONLY.
The photos were taken using my Canon EOS 400D using my EFS 18-55mm lens and set on Shutter Priority mode (AE but marked as TV on the camera) using a tripod as well. The exposure was set at 8 seconds at 200 ISO and on a 10 second delay remote trigger. All the photos were taken in RAW format and edited with Digital Photo Professional (Canons own software) where the colour temperature was adjusted as well as brightness, EV and sharpness levels. The photos were then re sized re sharpened and copyright protected using Paint Shop Pro photo XI (I cant afford Photoshop!!!!).

Its 00:35 in the morning as the Poole Yard dosser DR73276 is awake and preparing to leave the confines of the yard to take up residence on the Wareham side of the possession.

The last EWS ying built 66250 arrives @ 00:50 with the first train of the night. The 6N01 Eastleigh Yard - Poole. This Comprised of 30 various MHA/MTA/MFA's and 2 OCA/OBA's.

The dedication on the cabside's and inside the cab dedicated to Robert K Romak who had been heavily involved in the class 66 project but had died from cancer during the production of the initial 250 locomotives. Would have been nice to see an actual loco named after him. If they can name a loco after some company who they have a contract with then surely name this loco after this guy. Come on EWS sort it out.

My only loco need for the weekend formed the 6N02 Eastleigh Yard - Poole, this was 66180, thus bringing my total amount of red Yings down to 17 including those on EU duty. Again this had various MHA/MTA/MFA's and YLA/YQA wagons in the consist.

Looking at 66050, with the 6N03 Eastleigh Yard - Poole, from the rear cab looking at the possession start. This arrived at 01:56 on the Saturday morning. Its consist comprised 2 empty KWA "warwell" wagons and 13 loaded JNA wagons.

KWA95614 (with KWA 95612 behind it) sits behind 66050. These wagons normally have bulldozers on them. But these two will be loaded when it goes out later on in the day.

The driver of 66099 phones the signalman for instructions to enter the possession. All the trains were working wrong line to the work site. The consist was a rake of 15 JNA's.

66121 with a mixture of MLA & JNA's arrives at 3am in the morning with the 6N05. It was around this point I was contemplating calling it a day and going home. It was colder than the previous week as it was a clear starry night and Poole Railway station is not renowned for being rather warm.

Again with a mixture of JNA's & MLA's in its consist 66116 sits at the end of platform 2 having just arrived with the 6N06 from Eastleigh.

The terminator between night day is above us now as night starts to turn into day and dawn is not far off the horizon around 4am. At this point I had been awake for some 20 hours and seriously needed some sleep as 66046 draws into the platform with 66186 on the rear with the 6N07 from Eastleigh.
