July - December 2005

WOW what a great first 6 months of 2005 we've had, highlights include 60's on the stone & scrap traffic, 67's on the Desiro deliveries as well as the odd 66. The odd excursion to reach Poole that included classes 57's, 60's 47's and 33's So much so the 6 month gallery was spread over 2 pages. Still what can the next 6 months bring us?

2406 leaves platform 2 at Poole on 31st of December 2005 with a service to Weymouth. 2404 sits at Platform 1 with a service for Waterloo via Fareham and Guilford. January the 6th sees the first 442 going away for refurbishment to Ilford. The first unit to go is 2401.

With at least 2 442's out for refurbishment it is hoped that they wont be too stretched to cover the 442 turns. Here 444002 on a Poole to Farnborough service due to the line being closed at Woking for engineering works.

Balfour Beatty owned Tamper Liner # DR73928 stabled at Poole during an Engineering possession on December 19th 2005

Another shot of DR73928 stabled in Poole Yard.

73235 sits at platform 1 with a return driver trainer from Eastleigh on December 5th 2005 with 3417 Gordon Pettit for company.

3417 Gordon Pettit prepares to leave for Bournemouth depot.

73235 rounds the curve at Poole to cross the high street level crossing.

66535 runs wrong line from Poole to Holton Heath on November 12th 2005

Another shot of 66535

66535 once more. This was on hire to EWS from Freightliner and ran as light engine from Southampton Maritime to Poole, where the engineering works possession started for the weekend. EWS had helped out Freightliner with the provision of an EWS locomotive when one of Freightliner's loco's had failed on Friday night. More pics can be seen in the engineering section. This was the first time that a Freightliner Class 66 had made it past Branksome.

450056 forms a 12 coach Poole - Waterloo service. the other 2 units were 450097 & 450012.

450108, a kop for me ( 3 Class 450's left) terminates at Poole with the Brockenhurst to Poole service. The line between Poole & Wareham was closed all weekend for track renewal work at Holton Heath, see the engineering section for more pics.

On a damp and kinda cold Saturday morning 47703 Hermes rounds the curve at Poole with the 1Z91 07:10 Weymouth - Nottingham Football charter.

Another shot of Hermes

The train was 10 carriages in length and had a mixture of Unbranded Virgin coaches and Branded InterCity coaches in the consist. With 47832 attached to the rear to save on costly runround maneuvers.

47832 in the New FM Rail livery brings up the rear of the Footex. This should return through Poole around 23:00 on the night of the 5th and should reach Weymouth around 23:45. It is rumored for the stock to be returning to Oxley on Sunday afternoon instead of Monday.

67024 approaches Poole with the return leg of the 1Z14 Hither Green - Bournemouth T&RSMD Serco test train on October 3rd.

On the rear was 67004 Poste Haste. this train will stay at Bournemouth West Depot overnight.

17th July 2005 turned out to be possibly the last ever Slamdoor working to Poole and onto Weymouth (barring any further Class 73 familiarity runs with old slamdoor stock). This was the Southern Electric groups Slamdoor farewell tour from Ramsgate to Weymouth.

A close up of the headboard.

A stampede of Slamdoor fans rushed to the end of platform 2 from the train to get some final shots. At this point I must say a huge thanks to the ignorant twat from the Slamdoor tour that came over to platform 1 and promptly decided to stick his arse in my shot for his picture... I don't mean to the side of the photo, oh no he decided to give my camera a full on clothed MOON!!! Just as I was about to take the shot!! I was not impressed!!

Also quite possibly the last 12 coach EMU to visit Poole, not sure if a 12 coach fare paying passenger 450 has made it to or from Poole yet. Although a 2 x 450 + 1 brand new 444 in the middle of it has passed through Poole to Weymouth. The slamdoor numbers were 1698 (leading),3445 & 1866. Yet another era ends.

Plasser & Theurer Universal Tamper idles in Poole Yard on September 13th.

"Super Desiro" 444004 just after arrival at Poole with a 10 car 444 service from Waterloo. Word has it that some West Coast mainline Class 350 Desiro's fitted with DC shoe gear could be tested between Poole and Weymouth during the late evenings or during weekend line possessions, like Southwest Trains Class 444's and 450's. Whether this works out to be true or not would be interesting to see.

Plasser & Theurer USP 5000C ballast Regulator idles whilst waiting for the nights possession to commence. The line between Poole and Weymouth was closed till about 07:30 on the 14th of September. Also Long Welded Rail was being off-loaded between Holton Heath & Wareham.

66705 GOLDEN JUBILEE on the 6Z15 Eastleigh Yard - Poole Long Welded Rail train.

The Union Flag on the side of 66705.

The 66 was waiting for the Tamping machine and Ballast Regulator to leave and enter the possession before it could leave. It was at the station for over an hour before it left.

All new line up at Poole Desiro's 450072 & 444012 at Poole on Wareham to Brockenhurst stoppers and vice versa for the 444. Its a bit rare to see a 444 on the weekday runs to Wareham. This was dated 25th August 2005

4-Vep 3417 "Gordon Pettitt" sits at Platform 2 with a Driver training run from Bournemouth West to Eastleigh via Poole and vice versa.

Now with a headcode of "73" requested by yours truly and with 1497 Freshwater and 73201 (on Diesel) at the rear, Gordon prepares to leave for the carriage sidings.

Ex Broadlands ( 73142) 73201 glides through platform 1 with the Eastleigh bound leg of the training run. It seems as though there is not much time left for Gordon as there is no longer any work for it. Any takers?

47712 rounds the bend at Poole with a very late running return leg of the Sunny South Special on August 3rd.

The train was originally booked for BR '8P' 4-6-2 No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester but unfortunately it failed in the Totton area with a burst steam valve. It was subsequently 90 minutes late arriving in Weymouth
in the afternoon.

It was also subsequently 1 hour and 18 minutes late leaving Weymouth in the evening. The reason for this was 47712 had to take the Duke up to Yeovil to be serviced and left there for the fitters to look at it the next day.

With the final LPG train through Poole on Friday July 22nd 66119 slows as it approaches the 20 mph limit at Poole whilst giving a good soundage of HORN!!!!

The rear barrier wagon of the train conveyed the message " So long and thanks for all the fish " see below.

6V29 Furzebrook - Hallen Marsh 1990 - 2005
15 years and 4150 odd trains later

With what looks to the the final, final fully loaded LPG run from Furzebrook 66120 draws into Poole with the 6V29 Furzebrook - Avonmouth. It does seem that there is one more run for the empties to Furzebrook on Monday but the return will be sludge / Dregg's from Furzebrook. It looks as though this is the last train to run. The date Friday July 15th.

450057 on a Wareham to Brockenhurst service glides into Poole.

Another rarity today, and a Kop for me, was to see 444042 on the Brockenhurst to Wareham stopping services. 444042 leaves Poole bound for Wareham.

Yet another Kop for me (8 more to kop) was 444039. This is leaving the sidings on a Poole - Waterloo service.

BR '8P' 4-6-2 No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester Glides into Poole on Steam Dreams Sunny South Specials some 80 minutes down due to a line trespass at Sway.Unfortunately Steam trains bring out some really weird people. The trespasser was stood with tripod and camera equipment in the four foot (the space between the 2 running rails on a railway line) with his back to oncoming trains on the up line before Sway, What a complete and utter Twat. Its bad enough at the moment with this ongoing Terrorism and the stupid excuses being given to search or eject Legitimate enthusiasts from Train stations and we do not need idiots like that around the place. A day ruined for a majority of people.

Another shot of the Duke.

Dukes nameplate.

Another rarity this one. I was speaking to the driver and he was hoping to get a glimpse of the Duke going over Holes Bay but unfortunately he went a bit too far down past the 5 stop board. Seeing as he should have been in the carriage sidings but as he was late he stayed in the platform and terminated. The police were also called ( although since last Thursday's atrocities in London, Police have had a presence on the station) as some passenger on the train refused to pay.
