Saturday May 1st 2010 - Duff @ Rest!!

West Coast Railway Companies 47 # 47245 awaits its next turn of duty on #9 road in the old goods yard at Poole.

47245 had earlier been in charge of the 5Z70 Southall DMU – Poole CS ECS move with Britannia Class 70013 Oliver Cromwell" on the rear. This was for the 1Z70 Poole – Cardiff Central "The Welshman" tour. I didnt photograph the steam loco as it left an hour earlier than advertised and again it arrived over 45 minutes earlier in the evening as well.

Friday April 24th 2010 - Stoned Hawk!!!

Whilst waiting to get a long awaited shot of the Friday running stone I saw a Hawk hovering overhead, and only thinking after 10 seconds or so of watching it to get some shots of it.

This was hovering over the area where I was for around 5 - 10 minutes. It turns out there were at least 3 other Hawks in the vicinity as I saw 4 of them when I went home. Glad I managed to get these shots. There's plain evidence that my camera needs a good clean, its been like this now for over a year but you can see a spec of dust on the sensor just above and to the right of the Hawks wing. I am looking at my choices here and deciding on a rather expensive send it away to be cleaned or DIY which could be even more expensive if I screw it up!!!!

For the last few months the 7O48 Whatley - Hamworthy Stone train has been running on a Friday, today was no different. 59002 "Alan J Day" runs down past the back of the houses at Sterte with the loaded stone for Hamworthy. Seems I got a bit ambitious with the optional copyright mark!!

In this shot of 59002 you can see clearly the two different types of stone that is conveyed from Whatley Quarry.

Tuesday April 6th 2010 - Squirrely Sand!!!

Whilst waiting for the 6O49 Neasdon - Wool sand to pass through 444040 came through on the late running Weymouth - Waterloo service. This service was running over 60 minutes late and was terminated at Bournemouth. Not sure why it was running so late.

Again still waiting for the sand train to pass through I caught this little chap doing what he does best, climbing trees. I hope at some point this year to have a separate gallery for all other non railway based photos to go in. It might be set up by the end of the year. Touch wood.

Two shots of 66510 in charge of the 6O49 Neasdon - Wool Sand empties. This is the first time I have actually photographed this train since June last year due to my shite hours at work!!!

Also Freightliner have started using the JGA aggregate wagons instead of the HIA's.

Saturday March 27th 2010 - Shoeboxes to Swanage AKA Kirsty, Lisa & Shiny goto the Beach!!

Not content with running the first railtour to Swanage from London in 2009, UK Railtours ran the first tour to Swanage for 2010. This time with 3 class 73's!!!
With the classic "97" code showing in the headcode box 73208 "Kirsten" leads 73206 "Lisa" with the 1Z97 Victoria - Weymouth "Purbeck Conquerer". Running a few minutes early, I managed to snap this shot 5 seconds after I got there. I had to run to get there damn I am not built for this!!!!

Unofficially named 73212 "Shiny" on the rear of the 1Z97.

Kirsten leads Shiny up through Sterte with the return leg of the tour to Victoria (1Z98).

Stephen "Stevie" Trower flails and heads out of the small window on the return leg of "The Purbeck Conquerer" tour to Victoria.

Sunday March 21st 2010 - Sunny Spoons

Following the failure of 47760 on the Railway Touring Company's Dartmouth Express in October 2009 the passengers were given tickets for the another crack of the tour which was held on Saturday March 20th (I got up too late to see the train depart Poole that morning!!!). The trains were to run back ECS to Carnforth on the Sunday. Here 47804 leads 47826 through platform 1 at Poole with the 5Z48 Pool carriage Sidings to Carnforth ecs move.

47826 is renowned to have an advertisement for the Scarborough Spa Express tours on its body side. Just glad I was on platform 2 when it went past then I suppose to get a good shot of it.

Another regular visitor on Sundays at Poole are Class 220 / Class 221 Voyagers. These run ecs from either Eastleigh or Bournemouth* and berth in the carriage sidings for about 30 minutes before returning to Bournemouth. Here 220026 glides through platform 1 at Poole on its way back to Bournemouth.
* When services arrive at Bournemouth and terminate and then run ECS (empty coaching stock ) to Poole why cant the service run on to Poole with passengers? Still await a decent explanation on this.

Oblivious to what's going on around it DR73297 sits asleep on the engine road (#6 road) in the Old Goods Yard. With the current economic climate its looks as the the Poole Town Gateway Development of the Old Goods Yard has been put on hold indefeinatley. Still time will tell.
