For about a month this Container come workshop was located in the Old Goods Yard at Poole. I still haven't been able to find out the reason why but after about four weeks it had disappeared.

I was down the station on this rather soggy Saturday afternoon for the booked 4 engineers trains that were due. But as per the previous weekends engineers most of them left early. However this one 6G10 left on time and passes Poole with 66145 and a rake of 15 empty MRA wagons (3 sets of 5) behind it.
Tuesday February 2nd 2010 - Skip on the Branch!

67026 passes the former Holes Bay Junction with the 0Z50 Eastleigh Yard - Swanage light engine move.
Another first for Swanage this year was the first class 67 past Furzebrook and onto the Swanage Railway. This was the first 67 to traverse the Furzebrook branch since August 8th 2003 when 67029 had the honor of being the first Class 67 working on the branch. The working was 6W53 Eastleigh Yard - Furzebrook empty LPG wagons. it was used as a Driver trainer for the 67's.
67026 hauls the rake of empty Seacows across Holes bay on the return leg to Eastleigh.
Tuesday January 26th 2010 - Two shoe boxes and a shed!!
Network Rail liveried Class 73 73212 and First GBRF 73141 stabled in Poole CS after arriving with the 1Q82 from Selhurst.

Freightliner's 66596 on the 0M42 Southampton maritime - Wool passes 73212 & 73141 as they leave the Carriage Sidings at Poole with the return 1Q82 to Selhurst.
This was the third test train that visited Poole in the first few weeks of January. On January 12th we had 31459+9703, and on January 21st we had The Network Measurement Train down for the first time behind 43013 + 43062. Incidently the first HST between Poole & Dorchester since 1997.

Last year this train was being operated by the Euroscout, but since that has now gone on to pastures new it looks as though good old electro-diesel traction will be utilised. There is an air of expectancy that the 73's will be on this job if and when it visits the Hamworthy Quay branch and possibly Furzebrook later this year.
Thursday January 21st 2010 - Cows on the Branch!!

66031 powers through Sterte with the 6Z50 Eastleigh Yard - Swanage Ballast train.
With the world renowned ruins of Corfe Castle in the background 66031 pulls into Corfe Castle station with a consist of 18 Seacow ballast wagons carrying 729 tons of ballast for a track relaying job between Herston Hall & Victoria Road Bridge. The total weight of the train including the loco was over 1200 tons.
This was the heaviest train that had worked onto the Swanage Railway since it was originally opened in 1885. For more info about the track relaying work on the Swanage Railway, please click HERE. You will need Adobe Acrobat PDF to view the files.
Wednesday January 20th 2010 - Swanage Tractor!!
West Coast Rail's 37706 waits to leave Swanage with the 5Z29 Swanage - Eastleigh (then Carnforth) move on January 20th. In the consists was Pullman Car No. 347 which had been sold to West Coast Railways and Swanage Railways Class 108 DMU (51346 & 51388) which has gone to Eastleigh for specialist Aluminum Welding and fitting of TPWS and OTMR equipment.
Will we see Yellow front ends as well? Time will tell.
37706 and its ensemble approaches Cats Eye Road Bridge (between Wareham & Corfe Castle) on the return leg to Eastleigh.
The eighth most visited loco for 2009 crosses Holes Bay with the 5Z29 Swanage - Eastleigh.
Wednesday January 6th 2010 - First Snow of the year, No Honestly we did get some!!

444025 approaches Sterte at Poole with the 14:51 service on a very very cold afternoon. We had a 4 hours worth of snow dumped on us during the morning. Due to the amount of snow that had fallen further up the line SWT operated a shuttle service running from Weymouth - Bournemouth, Poole - Southampton & Southampton - Waterloo utilising their emergency timetable.

By the time I managed to get to Sterte after securing a half day from work in the hope that a fair bit of snow would fall (yeah right). The snow was falling in flurries by the time I had got to where I was. Its rare that we get snow down here, but mixing it up with being cold and the rest of the country getting heaps and heaps of the white fluffy stuff then we should get some ourselves.
Saturday January 2nd 2010 - Cold first entry!!

Whilst I was down town I wanted to get a stock shot (used in the header above) as the previous attempts a few days earlier had not turned out to be that good. Whilst I was waiting 444042 came into view with a service to Southampton Central.

444009 sat in the run round siding at Poole whilst waiting for its next turn of service. The size of the old 17 road yard can be ascertained from this shot. The yard was closed in 1983 and has seen little use since then. Only 3 roads now remain. These are (from right to left) 9 (electrified) and 10 on the left. The engine siding is out of shot to the left. Occasionally there is an OTP machine or two stabled on either of the roads or a diesel loco waiting for the return of its tour. The only freight that is seen at Poole these days is a Stone train for Hamworthy and Sand trains to and from Wool.
