22nd & 23rd September 2007 - Weekend Engineering

Having a break with tradition this time and the engineering pics that should have gone in the Poole Works Gallery are going in the Poole Gallery for the simple reason I only got three photos of the engineering trains out of ten that came through, plus one Sunday morning and its not enough to justify the work involved in doing a new page and associated bits within the Poole works gallery.
Here the driver of 66199 stops under a green light, to phone the signalman after he has stopped further up the platform already for a crew change with the second train of the night. This was the 6N02 Eastleigh Yard - Poole. It mainly comprised of loaded Seacow's and JNA's.

66065 with the 6N03 Eastleigh Yard - Poole stops for a crew change with a rake of loaded MLA's and JNA's. Its the first time that MLA's have been seen through Poole as well as that the trains were stopping for driver changes that never happened before either. This loco was a kop for me as well.

66217 stops again under a green light with the 6N04 Eastleigh Yard - Poole. This comprised mainly loaded MRA wagons two warwell wagons and 2 OCA/OBA wagons as well. The timing sheet I received stated the possession was starting at Poole but this was not true as out of the ten trains due only 5 of them stopped the rest of them went through. Also I only managed to get photos of 3 of them stopped as I had packed the camera away as it started to rain heavily!!

66089 passes through Poole with the return 6N05 Poole - Eastleigh Yard. This comprised of empty MRA side tipping ballast wagons and was running some 49 minutes late. As it turned out the possession started at Wareham (the work was at Worgret Junction on the up line). So there was plenty of space to stack them up between Worgret Junction and Wool and to save time on them taking forever to approach the main site of the work the possession was started at Wareham box instead of Poole, unknown to me at the time.

19th September 2007 - Stoned Spoons

59102 Village of Chantry approaches platform one at Poole whilst exiting the carriage sidings with the 7V48 Hamworthy OP - Whatley Quarry stone empties.

Nothing special about this really apart from this unit and 450125 keep bugging me as its 450124 thats the only one of the 450's I haven't yet seen. 450123 opens its doors to the public on a Southampton to Weymouth service.

The second week of the Hertfordshire Railtours charter to Bournemouth saw 47847 & 47843 on the turn but this time coming from Euston to Bournemouth.

At the rear this time is 47843 Vulcan. Unfortunately due to the previous weeks debacle the train ran ecs to Weymouth for watering and servicing. The picture looks a little blurry due to the fact that I had a Desiro sat next to me with and the light was fading fast as well. I try my best. A video of the train and the 59 can be seen below with a further 250+ videos on my YOU TUBE Channel.

18th September 2007 - Splitting Sand!!

Two shots of 66141 working the 6Z57 Wool MOD Siding to Watford sand. The first pic is my favorite of the two. It also features as pic of the month for September/October.

Next a sequence of shots that reminds me of the busy goods yard in the early 80's. Due to a points problem (DR553) at Dorchester both the EWS and Freightliner empty sand trains were unable to use the sidings to reverse and split and leave half of the wagons in.

So they were routed into the CS at Poole and then shunted back into 9 or 10 sidings in the yard and split.

66620 waits to reverse back into the yard at Poole.

After splitting about halfway 66620 brings out 10 wagons out of the carriage sidings and begins its 1st part of the journey to Wool. After the run round at Dorchester and the run to Wool it will reverse the ten wagons into the sidings and run light engine back to Poole Yard and pick up the remaining wagons. It will then repeat the trip to Dorchester / Wool again before heading back to Southampton Maritime for the night.

September 12th 2007 - Double Spoon

47843 Vulcan stops at Poole with the 5Z65 Bournemouth - Poole CS ecs. The train originally ran down as the 1Z65 Stevenage - Bournemouth charte to take passengers to Bournemouth for a trip on the PSS Waverly from Bournemouth pier to the Isle of Wight.

Vulcan Nameplate.

After a ten minute stop in the platform Vulcan heads over to the carriage sidings. Initially for watering but as we found out apparently the water has been turned off over the carriage sidings for a few months. Also there was some debate as to where it would go due to the length of the train as there was one siding clear and another siding with a 5 car Desiro in it and a 10 Des inbound. As it was the ten Des terminated in platform 2 (usually platform 1) with the following Waterloo - Weymouth coming in on Platform 1 ( should have been platform 2) and then running wrong line (on the up) to the points at Sterte where it then rejoined the down line. The terminating 10 Des then shunted to the GPL on the up line at Sterte and ran round on the main (what they are allowed to do) and then came into platform 1 for the 13:01 service to Waterloo.

Large logo spoon 47847 on the rear of the ECS as it heads into the carriage sidings. Eventually the train split and both parts were shunted into the yard so both carriage sidings could be used. It was eventually watered at Poole.
