September 4th 2007 - Sun, Sand, Stone & Foxes??

66620 accelerates into the cutting at Sterte with the 6O49 Neasdon - Wool MOD sidings sand empties.

With the trial run a few weeks ago, today saw the first run of the 6Z57 Wool MOD sidings - Watford Yard loaded sand operated by EWS. These run down presumably from Eastleigh or Watford early in the morning passing Poole around 6am. Worth noting about the load on this train that the second wagon in the consist had no sand in, now whether or not the wagon was not supposed to have been filled or the driver of the sand loader just plain forgot is unsure. 66150 is in charge of today's train.

Not a shot you see everyday at Sterte, 2 444's passing each other. 444002 with a Weymouth - Waterloo service passes 444036 with a Brockenhurst - Wareham service.

Not something you see everyday seeing as most Town Foxes are seen at night but here a dog and bitch fox are seen bathing in the late afternoons sun in between passing trains. When the trains came along the foxes sought shelter in the undergrowth!!
Tech Info alert!! The shot as with most photos taken today was taken using the Cannon EF 55-200mm lens on my 400D. Its some 110 feet (just over 33 meters) from where the two foxes were to where I was on the bridge taking some pics of them. This picture was sharpened and cropped using the Camera software on the PC, then saved as a high quality JPEG, sharpened and resized and the color temperature adjusted to how it should have been by using PSP Photo XI. Considering the distance its not a bad pic. By far its not the best picture I have taken but I like it just the same. I hope to get a 300 mm lens for the camera by the end of the year.

My co-conspirator for the afternoon, Dorset Ned, snapped here snapping a piccie of me.... How dare he!!! :)

59002 Alan J Day in charge of the 7V48 Hamworthy OP - Whatley Quarry empty stone working .....

.... Well sort of. about 4 of the wagons at the rear were unusually partly or still fully loaded!!

September 1st 2007 - Odds & Sods

Ok so its a bit far from the normal stomping ground for the Poole gallery but the really wasn't enough pics to allow a separate trips out gallery so they are going here. An unidentified Virgin Voyager speeds south through Hinton Admiral with a service for Bournemouth.

450116 speeds away from its stop at Hinton Admiral with the local Brockenhurst - Wareham stopper.

Whether this Magpie was contemplating ending it all or just looking for some tasty morsels was unclear at the time.

A nice framed shot of an unknown 220 voyager and SWT 444016 as they pass each other at the London end of Hinton Admiral

As the same with the shots of the Claret Skips at Hinton Admiral... oh you didn't see them, they were not that good!, this was another shot that turned out just plain awful. 66620 crosses the entrance to Bournemouth T&RSMD at Branksome with the 6Z42 Saturdays only Reading Yard - Wool MOD sidings Sand empties. Yes I did mention Reading West Yard, They didnt come from Neasdon as they came back from the west country empty due to no sand aggregate being available to load the train.

Originally what I went to Hinton Admiral for was to get video and photo's of this rather strange ecs working from Chichester running as the 5Z96 Chichester - Bournemouth T&RSMD. This was possibly the first VSOE working to Bournemouth West since July 9th 1967 some 40 + years ago. Here 67006 Royal Sovereign leads the return ECS out of the depot at Branksome and into platform 2 (and not platform 1 as booked).

67005 Queens Messengeron the rear now the front of the 5Z97 Bournemouth T&RSMD - Chichester ecs awaits its driver at Branksome.

A video of the above trains can be found below, hosted on my YOU TUBE channel

August 22nd 2007 - Janice & Alison's Seaside Jolly!!

GB ED's 73204 Janice & 73209 Alison pass through the cutting at Sterte, Poole with the 1Z83 Weymouth - London Victoria return leg of a GBRF Staff Charter.

73204 & 73209 again. These were both drawing juice from the third rail.

66708 was on the rear of the train from Weymouth back to the big smoke.

August 21st 2007 - Three freights at Poole? What ever next!!

66018 slows for the red light on Holes Bay causeway in charge of the 6Z57 Wool MOD sidings - Watford Junction Yard trial sand flow.

66018 approaches platform one at Poole with the trial sand run from Wool. This was running in the same path as the Freightliner sand would if it was running. As it was the Woolly Green snake was returning with empties later in the afternoon.

A seagull has a "bath" in one of the puddles in the old goods yard at Poole, Well at least its not a pigeon!!

New loco for the Wool sand this week was 66530. It passes through platform two at Poole with the 6O49 Neasdon - Wool MOD sidings sand empties.

444006 pulls into platform 1 with a late running 17:01 Poole - Waterloo service as 450101 passes with a Brockenhurst - Wareham service.

59104 Village of Great Elm rolls under the signal gantry at Poole with the 7V48 Hamworthy OP - Whatley stone empties.

August 15th 2007 - Stoned Nelson!

A side look at 444024 & 444016 as they are stabled in Poole CS. These were both part of 10 car trains running from Waterloo - Poole. The other 2 5 cars departed on the 12:01 & 13:01 Poole - Waterloo services.

450002 passes us with a Brockenhurst - Wareham stopper.

Ex Southern steam loco 850 Lord Nelson slowly rounds the bend from its short stop at Poole with 1Z91 Kensington Olympia - Weymouth - London Waterloo Sunny South Special.

Unfortunately every time I see this loco she doesn't seem to be working hard at all, this has also been noted by Dorset Ned and a few other people. It was late leaving Kensington Olympia due to not being able to get enough steam up and then 2 days later on Friday 17th she failed with 'crown stays'. Nellie is not having a good time of it lately.

I think this must be the most photographed 37 by me. I have taken some 25+ photos of 37248 since the beginning of the year alone. Still I cant complain. She is on the rear of the 1Z91 to Weymouth.

A shot that I have been trying to get for the past few months is the 7O48 Whatley Quarry - Hamworthy loaded stone train. Here it is right on the tail of Lord Nelson's train behind 59005 Kenneth J Painter.

Finally the Sunny South Special return from Weymouth to London Waterloo was somewhat delayed by about an hour due to "pathing" problems and the late arrival of the train at Weymouth earlier on in the day. So in really crap light Nelson sits on the Starter at Poole waiting to leave.
