August 11th 2007 - Spoons, Desiro's, Pigeons, Containers & Cameras!!
First up 2 shots of containers on Poole Quay and Poole Docks.
Why I hear you ask. Well At least 150 (rumors say more to 500) containers have been deposited around Poole Quay and in the docks area. I was told in the week as well that Freightliner Intermodal have enquired about the possibility to use the sidings at Hamworthy goods. Quite possible due to upcoming engineering works concerning the Marchwood and Fawley lines near Southampton. It had been noted that quite a few lorries have been delivering empty 40ft containers to Poole Docks. So the brain went into overtime and came to the conclusion that there could be some sort of Loaded Freightliner train to leave Poole. It does not look as though this is the case. See the news dated 14 August for more details.
450094 departs platform 2 with the local stopper to Wareham from Brockenhurst while 444007 waits to depart with the 12:01 to Waterloo.
This is what I was at Poole for to see Nenta's tour to Wareham and Weymouth from Norwich. 47805 Talisman approaches the high street level crossing with the 1Z45 Norwich - Weymouth charter.
Another shot of 47805 Talisman on the 1Z45 to Weymouth. This had a right mish mash of coaches in the consist.
Unique XP64 liveried 47853 Rail Express was on the rear of the 1Z45 charter. Seeing the 47s from this point bought back many fond memories of the times from when I was a small boy looking at the interegional trains leaving Poole for the North and running into Poole at journeys end or Summer Saturdays to Weymouth... ahhh those were the days.
A pigeon prepares to phone the signalman for permission to proceed... The pic above and the following lot of photos shot on August 11th were taken with my new Canon EOS 400D camera. Let me know what you think.
Not another bleeding Pigeon picture..... I am not a pigeon fancier but waiting for the return of the Nenta Charter to Norwich I thought I would test out the new camera. Here 444035 is blurred in the background as Mr Pigeon looks at it passing.
444033 passes 444045 with a Weymouth - Waterloo service.
This shot was a good way of testing out the EV settings on the camera's supplied software. The small cutting is engulfed by late afternoon shadows making it a dark and hard to photograph place. 47853 at the head on the return leg to Norwich.
Two shots of 47805 Talisman on the rear of the 1Z45 Weymouth to Norwich.
August 9th 2007 - Departmental Sand
66529 passes underneath the signal gantry at Poole whilst in charge of the 6O49 Neasdon - Wool Sand empties.
Balfour Beatty liveried USP 5000C Ballast Regulator sits in siding 9 in the old goods yard at Poole. This left DR73927 for company until Friday when it left for Woking. DR77336 left early Saturday evening. Unfortunately although I saw it leave I wasn't fast enough to get a shot of it.... oh well thems the breaks.
August 1st 2007 - Hot & Steamy Sand
The first of the ex Sunny South Specials makes its way through Poole on August 1st with Battle of Britain steam loco 34067 Tangmere taking the now Cathedrals Express to Weymouth with 37248 on the rear.
Tangmere from the timing sheets I had, was not due to stop at Poole. But it did. Its just about to leave Poole and head for Weymouth.
Tangmere's nameplate.
37248 Loch Arkaig idles away on the back of Tangmere's train.
A zoomed in shot of Freightliner's 66529 approaching PO2 signal near the Holes Bay road bridge.
With a green light in front and two red lights behind in the heat haze 66529 brings its train of sand through Poole for the trip to Neasdon.
Two pigeons getting fresh whilst waiting for Tangmere to pass. Is this taking nature photos too far on the site?
Due to the late running of the train back from servicing at Yeovil Jcn the return leg of the Cathedrals Express left Weymouth an hour down. its seen here at Poole some 35 minutes down as it approaches Poole for its scheduled stop.
Another shot of Tangmere as it approaches Poole. There has been rumors of talk to bring the other side of the Bourne Valley triangle back into use so that trains could be turned at Branksome instead of having to travel all the way to Yeovil Junction, which often presents delays for the return leg of the tour that operates from Weymouth. Whether this will happen or not is unclear at the present time.
