Poole Gallery July - December 2007
Welcome to the second half of the Poole Gallery for 2007 after a rather successful and busy start to 2007 we hope the last six months of 2007 are as busy as the previous six. From now until September with about 10 railtour's either at Poole, Weymouth or Bournemouth it sure is going to be busy. There is one thing that is not in my favour. I am now doing shift work so unfortunately if I cannot get a day off then I wont be able to get shots of some of the trains. Oh well thems the breaks...
July 28th 2007 - Silver Sand
67029 draws into Poole at 5:41 am with an ECS working from Eastleigh to Poole
The train was the empty coaching stock for diesel leg of The Golden Arrow tour from Bournemouth - Folkestone & Canterbury and return. Here the loco is about to reverse onto the coaching stock after running round.
The driver has stopped on the "Very Dodgy" pointwork to change ends before reversing onto the empty stock. Where's yer Hi Vis Drive?
The driver gives that extra touch to the buffers with EWS Silver Spray!!!.
Another shot of 67029 this time from the level crossing as the 5Z85 Poole to Bournemouth ecs working. This is only the second time that 029 has visited Poole. The first time it visited was in August 2003 with the empty LPG tank working from Eastleigh - Furzebrook.
A Squirrel tries not to be noticed dashing along the bridge parapet at Sterte.
450008 accelerates to permitted line speed with a service to Wareham from Brockenhurst.
66529 was the reason why I was down here on a Saturday. Here its seen taking the 5Z42 Angerstein Wharf to Wool MOD sand empties.
Another shot of 66569. Its rumored that EWS will be operating a second flow from Wool to Watford Junction. There could be upto five sand trains a week, Three with Freightliner and two with EWS. Interesting times lay ahead.
July 22nd 2007 - BoB across the Bay
South West Trains ED 73109 Battle of Britain 50th Anniversary trundles across Holes Bay, Poole with a route refresher from Bournemouth TMD to Weymouth and return.
July 21st - By Royal Appointment
Royal Skips 67005 & 67006 arrive at Dorchester West with the service from Bristol Temple Meads - Weymouth.
July 17th 2007 - Serco Tractors
37218 & 37259 work down to Weymouth with the 1Q14 Serco test train to Weymouth.
One of the strangest sights is seeing the Serco train in the carriage sidings at Poole. Its very rare to see these stabled in the carriage sidings.
July 14th 2007 - Poundbury Skips
67021 at the head of the 2O67 Bristol Temple Meads - Weymouth passed Poundbury (near Dorchester). 67005 Queens Messenger is on the rear of the train.
July 6th 2007 - Destination Weymouth!
444012 slows for its stop at Poole with the 12:00 Weymouth - Waterloo service. This unit had been named at Weymouth about an hour earlier "Destination Weymouth".
A shot of the nameplate on 444012. This is to mark the accomplishment of Weymouth hosting some of the sailing events in the fourth coming 2012 Olympics. The original name was rumored to be Destination Weymouth 2012 but the London 2012 Organising Committee wanted to protect the billion pound lucrative sponsorship deals, regarding the Olympic branding, with private investors. So unfortunately the reference to 2012 was dropped. Still it didn't stop some bright spark at South West Trains selecting 444012 for the name. Well done SWT and up yours stuffy and money grabbing old London 2012 Organising Committee!!!
July 3rd 2007 - Dorset Wanderer and other tales!!
444011 sits in the reception siding at Poole before it takes the 16:01 Poole - Waterloo service.
Dorset's own adopted Fred 66622 makes its way past Poole High School towards Sterte Bridge and Holes bay with the return 6O49 Neasdon - Wool Sand empties.
Two shots in pouring rain of 59103 Village of Mells entering the reception sidings to recess for an hour with the 7V48 Hamworthy OP - Whatley Quarry stone empties.
A rare visitor to Poole yard (#9 road) is this USP 5000C Ballast Regulator DR77316. This joins DR73927 thats also sat in the yard on the "engine" road. This turned up on Monday night. This shot was taken from Sterte road and not the train station. It was a bugger to get as the vegetation kept getting in the way of the shot!!!
July 2nd 2007 - Dorset Wanderers Pocket Rocket!!
First up for the 2nd part of the 6 months of 2007 is one of Poole's more frequent visitors. Freightliner's 66622 unofficially tagged "Dorset Wanderer with the 6M42 Wool - Neasdon loaded sand. This loco has been on this turn since May 5th!!
DR73927 Network Rails tamper has been an infrequent visitor to Poole also over the last year or so.
BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 76079 + support coach trundles through Poole with the first steam train working to Swanage since 1967. It was due to bank the Royal Wessex Tour from Weymouth but the tour has been postponed now until October 20th 2007. The steam loco is at Swanage to participate in the 40th anniversary of the end of steam on the Southern Railway.
