March 18th 2007 - A date with Allison

For the second weekend in a row GBRf ED's were present at Poole. This weekend it was 73209's Allison turn with the 6G13 Eastleigh - Bournemouth engineers. These should really be in the Poole Works section but due to only being one train they are better off here.

Although the possession started at Bournemouth this time and not Branksome. Branksome was the worksite as there was a lot of scrap rail that had to be cut up and removed. These 2 shots were taken with my Sony Ericsson W810i camera phone as it was far too windy for the Sony R1, the video camera does not take pics, and I had to use the battery from the R1 as the Video camera battery died on me and the P150 was at home having a weekend off!! I was quite lucky that this stopped at Poole on the way out as last week 73205 did not.

March 11th 2007 - A date with Jeanette plus Bournemouth Depot ramblings

GBRf liveried 73205 Jeanette arrives at Poole with a short engineers train to run round. this was the 6G11 22:42 Eastleigh East yard to Branksome. This arrived at Poole around 00:54 Sunday morning. It was picking up Scrap rail and other left over rubbish around the Parkstone area. Unfortunately I was lucky to get this photo as I did not take the Sony R1 with me but took my Sony P150 camera to record it to video (along with the Sony TRV230e) and we were not expecting it to stop. So it was a rush photograph on the wrong settings using my Sony DSC P150!! Still turned out ok after I had to rotate the image 3 degrees in Paint Shop Pro 11!!!

Driving wheels of a 442.

Ever wanted to see what a class 442 traction motor looked like.... here it is!!!

One half of 2423 in the maintenance shed at Bournemouth.

2423's MBLS on jacks with a motorless bogey in the foreground.

73109 and the other half of 2423 outside at Bournemouth depot.

Gordon Pettit looking even more smarter. Where its going who knows?????

Two more shots of accident victim 444042. The driver was very very lucky. Note the coupler, what they use to move the Desiros around. Shots of coach 63842's move to Crewe for assessment can be seen in the 444042 Gallery.

March 06th 2007 - Desiro vs Tree

The 21:35 Waterloo - Weymouth service (March 5th) came to grief 4 chains West of Woodford #38 crossing on March 6th at a little after midnight. South West Trains Desiro 444042 hit a tree that had fallen on the line. The line speed in the area is 80 mph until just past the crossing where it goes to 85 mph. The impact knocked off two external doors which were found lying down the track. The leading gangway doors were pushed through the front bulkhead of the train and the drivers windscreen has been smashed through by a rather large branch that just missed the driver. Three shoes were knocked off on the driver side, the drivers door has been ripped off again that was found down the track and there are numerous windows that were damaged. There was also an 8ft trunk of a tree under the train. Although the train did not derail. So at least the train got some of the tree!! Although 73109 was despatched to Moreton to aid in the recovery the unit managed to make it back to Bournemouth depot under its own power. Here the unit is photographed at Bournemouth Depot in the morning following the accident. It seems as though just the coach will go to Germany for the "remodeling job". The Driver was said to have been shaken but not thought to have been hurt., he also drove the unit back to Bournemouth depot. He was a very lucky man. Two passengers needed treatment from the attending ambulance but did not require further visits to Hospital. © www.Hentis-Rail.co.uk

February 17th 2007 - Stoned Sleeper!!

Harsco Track Technologies Stone blower DR80214 stabled in Poole yard.

Back on page one of this years photo gallery I placed a pic up about a broken sleeper on the up line at Poole, hoping that Network Rail would do something about it, well they haven't now there's a surprise. Well heres a couple more detailed pics of it. The three photos were taken with the Sony P150 and not the R1.

This second shot shows just how bad the sleeper has been destroyed. The chair that both the guide rail & running rail sit on has sunk down into the sleeper, The bolts/screws are loose and the block to stop the rails shifting has fallen out. If this is a safe sleeper I would like to see what designates unsafe!

This other side of the sleeper fairs a bit better but is showing signs of collapse, whilst there is concern over a set of points at Poole there is not concern over this sleeper. In fact there are quite a few ropey looking sleepers in the vicinity of both the up and down line. I have now sent links of these images to Network Rail for "their info" .
Update 23rd March 2007:- I received a letter from Network Rail today basicly stating that the Maintenance co-ordinator has "investigated the complaint and established that this section of track comprises of wooden sleepers, and that there are two or three that were noticed in bad shape but are spread well apart that they do not pose a problem to track safety" - Oh well, they obviously know what they are on about. Still I thought it was cause for concern. I expect they would be replaced at some point although seeing as these sleepers are in the platform replacing them would not be an easy job.
Update 11th March 2007:- I received an email from the public relations dept of Network Rail on Monday February 26th and this is what they had to say "Thank you for your communication to our website. Your concerns have been logged with our Maintenance Co-Ordinator for the Poole area." Bear in mind that this was the Monday following the previous Fridays Pendolino Derailment in Cumbria!!! Coincidence?

February 14th 2007 - Return of the Duff

47839 Pegasus stands switched off at the rear of an ECS working that has come from Havent. This is being watered and stabled until the return to Havent later on in the afternoon.

As well as the Great Britons coach set there was also an unbranded Virgin MK2 Air Con and this MK 1 Buffet Restraunt coach (1692)in the consist.

I was a bit surprised to see DR 73928 parked up in the other siding at Poole. The usual siding that these are parked in was occupied with DR77336. Yet again before I get inundated with abusive emails I was NOT trespassing on railway property to get this shot.

XP64 liveried 47853 Rail Express was the other loco at the front end of the train.

47853 Rail Express clags nicely as it rounds the bend and prepares to cross the high street level crossing.

47839 brings up the rear.
