The Waterloo Sunset - 40 Years of the end of Steam on the Southern Railway
Welcome to a secondary gallery celebrates the 40th anniversary of the end of steam on the Southern Railway. Originally there were two tours planned both from Waterloo named the Waterloo Sunset (Waterloo - Poole via Salisbury) with Clan Line and The Waterloo Sunrise Waterloo - Weymouth via Yeovil and return via Poole and Southampton with Tangmere on the Monday. Unfortunately due to stock for the Waterloo Sunset tour not being able to get to Stewarts Lane due to the train failing at Westbury and a complete cluster duck of organisation skills in trying to get the stock and loco back to Stewarts Lane the Waterloo Sunrise was caped. Thus instead of having photos & video of both the sunset and sunrise I just have the sun set tour. Oh well better than a kick in the nuts I suppose!!
Not so old age looking but 221119 "Amelia Earhart" comes out of the stabling sidings at Poole with an ecs move to Bournemouth.
66145 was the modern day loco rostered to take charge of the train from Salisbury to Poole (in reverse as there is no turning facilities available at Poole). Here its just arrived at Poole on time.
Merchant Navy class locomotive 35028 Clan Line is on the rear of the Waterloo Sunset and is seen here crossing over the points and being towed into the stabling sidings.
Clan Line entering the stabling point.
It was pre arranged to have Clan Line fed and err sorry coaled & watered in the yard at Poole. In doing this the steam loco and the first coach (support coach) were uncoupled and went into the old goods yard for the coaling and watering to take place.
Clan Line nameplate.
A wide angle shot of the lady after here drink and feeding.
Clan Line reverses back onto her train after her feed!!
Clan Line waiting for the road. Thanks goto Network Rail and South West Trains.
Clan Line leaves the station and prepares to cross the high street level crossing for the return journey back to Waterloo. A bit of an arty shot here, I think I took the shot a bit too soon but lesson learned for next time.
Another shot of Clan Line approaching the level crossing at Poole.
Clan Line steams off up "the bank" with 66145 with the return Waterloo Sunset.
