Poole Gallery July - December 2006 (continued)
November 25th 2006 - Wiper Woes
444044's wiper has been trapped round the side of the cab. THIS IS what is causing the scraping effect seen on some of the cabs of the 444's and 450's. This refers to my photo dated October 24th 2006 after I made the comment under that photo and some inane moron decided to call me a few abusive names basicly telling me I did not know what I was talking about. It certainly does seem that modifications are needed to the wipers to stop them from doing this.
November 18th 2006 - Dessie's, Wessie's and Sandie's
The demise of the Class 442's, the flagship of the Bournemouth - Weymouth Electrification completed in 1988, and quite possibly the last ever type of train that has one of the comfiest seats out, is edging nearer with dates of January 13th being earmarked as the last day of operation for the fleet. It seems as though there are plans for 1 or 2 farewell tours for the pigs. What is certain is the uncertain future these units currently have. Possibility of temporary storage at the old Eastleigh depot whilst re-viynling takes place? Also word of GBRf bidding for the contract to take the pigs off region to a storage area, Long Marston perhaps? Still the re paints go on until December 20th. Here freshly painted pig 2413 waits for the all clear for a service to Waterloo via Guilford.
Network Rail MPV DR98964 (98914 on the rear) starts the spaying again as it clears the points on the return leg of its run from Eastleigh to Weymouth.
444012 glides into platform 1 at Poole with a service bound for Winchester (engineering works in the Basingstoke area meant trains had to terminate / start at Basingstoke with through services going via Guilford to Waterloo.
November 16th 2006 - Invasion of the Desiro's prt VII
450122 arrives behind 66231 on the 7X53 to Bournemouth Depot from Eastleigh.
Shiny new bogie of 66932.
The rear end of 450122. SWT now have ten of the 17 new Desiro's in service. There are 5 more of these due in before the end of the year apparently. I would have thought it would be early January before the final ones arrive. Just in time for the release of the 442's back to the Angel Trains. Earmarked to be around January 13th 2007.
October 24th 2006 - Invasion of the Desiro's prt VI
444039's power shoe arcs as it leaves the juice rail, as it and 444044 runs ecs into the carriage sidings at Poole. This will run as the 07:54 Poole - Waterloo service vice 2 x class 442's whilst 2 are being modified with 42 way jumper cable modifications.
444044's offside cab shows a fair bit of damage already and bare metal showing also (these aint plastic!!!!!). It seems as though the windscreen wipers are becoming "trapped" at the very edge of the cabside thus causing the gouging and scraping effect that has been noted on several 444's as well as 450's. Modifications needed perhaps?
66061 brings in 450121 on the 7X53 ready for run round.
The EWS shunter walks down the raised footpath ensuring the trains is safe and sound before it moves off towards Bournemouth Depot. Unfortunately due to the time of year, the damp and wet conditions and early morning the shots were not my best.
October 21st 2006 - Duffs, Dessies, Wessies & MPVs
47851 "Traction Magazine" sits at the rear of the 1Z45 Doncaster - Bournemouth Charter from Railtourer.
450057 passes 47851 with a service from Wareham - Brockenhurst.
47826 "Springburne" sits at the head of the train waiting to leave. This ran from Doncaster to Winchester and Bournemouth as a charter train, much like they did in early 2005 see Poole Gallery Jan - June 2005 for pictures from that tour. Why they did not run the service as far as Poole instead of Bournemouth I do not know. After all Poole has much more places of interest than Bournemouth. Also the shopping center is next door to the station Bournemouth's is a good walk away!!!
Network Rail owned MPV DR98980 + DR98930 pass the stabled 47's as it carries out its Sandite duties. This will return later on in the day.
Another shot of 47851.... damn light post!!!! I wasn't a happy chap as this arrived some 20 minutes earlier than planned, and I missed it arriving, even though it was held west of Millbrook for 14 minutes for a Virgin Voyager to pass.
A rather dirty Traction Magazine nameplate.
A change of location now as I move a few miles up the line to Parkstone. 2408 (rear)+ 2423 depart Parkstone heading down the bank to Poole on a Waterloo - Poole service.
47826 "Springburne" storms up Parkstone bank with the 5Z46 Poole CS to Bournemouth ECS working as 450013 leaves Parkstone on a Brockenhurst to Wareham working. As seen in issue 59 of The Railway Herald .
47851 on the rear of the 5Z46 ECS working to Bournemouth. More pics of this tour can be seen at www.47.soton.co.uk
October 14th 2006 - Day of the Desiro's
A black & white shot of Balfour Beatty liveried 08-16/4x4C80-RT Tamper/Liner, DR 73928 sits in Poole yard in preparation for its duties between Christchurch and Branksome on Saturday night early Sunday morning.
2421 stops at Poole with a late running Waterloo - Weymouth service. It was due in at 10:39 it arrived at 11:13.
444032 terminates at Poole with the 08:26 Waterloo to Poole 10 car service. 10 car 444's are being used more frequently on Saturday services to Poole vice 10 car 442 units. In preparation for February 2007 perhaps when most of the 442 diagrams are reportedly to go over to 444 operation as the 442's are reportedly to go off lease.
444021 on the rear of the 08:26 Waterloo - Poole service trundles into the reception sidings.
How much longer will this be a common site at Poole? 2404 Borough of Woking and 2407 Thomas Hardy share a station together during a brief respite of running to both ends of the Waterloo - Weymouth mainline.
September 22nd 2006 - Invasion of the Desiro's prt V
2408+2403 pull out of the reception sidings with the 07:54 Poole - Waterloo service.
450117 leaves Poole on a test train bound for Wareham. This will then run to Southampton Central then down to Weymouth leaving Weymouth for Bournemouth depot around 13:15.
450118 makes it Desiro delivery #10 (if you include 450101) to Poole for 2006. With Southwest Trains successful bid for running the franchise for another 10 years could we be seeing more Desiro's being ordered?
September 21st 2006 - Invasion of the Desiro's prt IV
The shunter looks out of the cab of 66212 on the 7X53 run to Poole with 450119 in tow.
Newly delivered 450119 sandwiched between FIA 837049130185
The signalman prepares to reset the route as a pigeon sits on the top of an old SR lamp frame watching 66212 & 450119 drawing into the reception siding.
