Eastleigh 16th February 2008
For the second trip out of the year I have chosen to go to Eastleigh. This was for two reasons. First to get the wagons from the Middlesborough - Eastleigh Slag train and to get a shot of the Wessex Electrics in warm storage at Eastleigh TMD. Unfortunately some of the shots I took will not be appearing on this page due to the fact I made a rather big cock up. From around 08:30 in the morning to about 13:00 hours in the afternoon my cameras ISO setting was 1600 instead of 100. I obviously didnt notice it although I did check early on, the first lot of photos were taken at 100 ISO. So in all out of 109 photos 57 were shot with the wrong ISO setting hence the 1 page and not 2. These were shot either with my 18-55 mm or 55-200 mm lenses with the Canon EOS 400D. I also shot about 15 minutes video with the Sony P150 DSC. This can be viewed in two parts on my You Tube channel or at the bottom of the page.

First up 66165 hauls a car train out of the yard at Eastleigh for unloading at Southampton docks. It was cold & icy and the sun had just started to appear above the warehouses on my right hand side.

The sun illuminates the drivers cab 66707 Sir Sam Fay as it begins rise above the top of the loco.

73208 Kirsten is illuminated by the rising sun.

08482 runs light from the TMD to the Yard at Eastleigh after a drink of fuel at the stabling point.

Freightliner Heavy Hauls 66617 approaches platform 2 / 3 at Eastleigh with the 6Z97 Middlesborough - Eastleigh blast furnace slag train. This had about 27 HIA bogie hoppers in the consists and for unloading purposes had to split into two parts. Note the Sony P150 sat on the phone to the right of the picture..... its mine!! :)

Another gronk, 08804 approaches platform 2 at Eastleigh after a slurp of fuel at the EWS TMD. This was the second one of the day.

Forwarding the clock some 3 1/2 hours (due to the afore mentioned human/camera operation malfunction), I am now at Campbell road bridge that overlooks the old depot and entrance to the EWS TMD. SWT liveried Class 158 unit 158882 passes a pair of gronk's on their way to the EWS TMD for a slurp of fuel.

Class 13's are back at Eastleigh...... err no Mr Hentis its a Super Gronk.... Well actually it 08482 hauling 09019 to the TMD for a slurp of fuel!!

With all 3 platforms at Eastleigh occupied by Desiro's 66008 waits to leave the TMD access road for the yard.

Now back with a proper ISO setting (ISO 100) as 66602 with the 6Z42 Angerstein Wharf - Wool Mod Sidings sand empties departs from its driver change over at Eastleigh.

66602 snakes out of the down slow onto the down fast heading for Wool.

66576 speeds through Eastleigh with an unidentified intermodal service to Southampton Maritime.

Having unloaded the hoppers joined them up and ran round its train 66617 runs light to Southampton Maritime for a slurp of fuel before returning light engine to attach to its train for the return journey to Middlesborough.

Another shot of 73208 Kirsten this time with the sun high in the sky :).

66617 now back after fueling and waiting to take its train of empty HIA wagons back to Middlesborough.

66617, 73208, 73206 & 66707 in the old loco stabling point at the back of platform 3.

HIA's 369008 & 369032.
