Basingstoke & Didcot 27th June 2008
Welcome to my 3rd trip out for 2008. for this trip I went to Basingstoke & Didcot. I originally had planned to go across to Acton and then back to Eastleigh via Reading but due to me over sleeping and not feeling too good (Living with Menieres disease is not easy) as well as hanging around Basingstoke for 2 hours for a pair of Colas 47's put the original plan out to window. As it happened it was a fairly short day due to the fact that Didcot was rather... well crap... SO it was back to Basingstoke and a train to Winchester then onto Eastleigh as it was I fell asleep just before Micheldever, woke up just after Winchester and missed changing trains for Eastleigh so I thought oh bollocks.... to round my day off I even left my hat on the train. All the photos were shot using my 18-55mm or 55-200mm lenses @ 100 ISO.

Over the past 18 months or so the BARS (Basingstoke Area Re-signalling) program has been going on. Here on recently re laid track First Great Western 165130 comes into the bay platform (#5) at Basingstoke with a Reading to Basingstoke service.

SWT class 159 units 019 (closest to the camera) and 015 leave Basingstoke with a service to Waterloo.

450107 is viewed from one of the new LED colour light signals at Basingstoke.Note the pattern is displayed in miniature on each of the LED's in the light itself.

165130 leaves Basingstoke with a service to Reading as it passes 66571 on the 4O14 Garston to Southampton intermodal.

66571 on the 4O14

Passing through platform 4 at Basingstoke is 66543 at the business end of the 4E44 Southampton Millbrook - Leeds Intermodal.

Catching me by surprise and with only enough time to remove the lens cap power up and focus and capture 5723 zooming past platform 2 at Basingstoke with a Wimbledon Park T&RSMD to Bournemouth T&RSMD ecs move to pick up 5710.

With the distinctive Virgin livery on most of these units confined to history these are now picking up the nicknames of "Brown Noses". 220009 comes of the Reading line, in full Arriva Cross Country with a service for Bournemouth.

66067 with the 6V38 Marchwood - Didcot MOD passes platform 4 as 220009 heads for Worting Junction in the background. The wagons in the 66067's consist were 50 year old MOD Warwell wagons.

Shoo Fly dont bother me!!
A rather large fly takes a drink form some rain drops on the front end of a 444!!!

66163 comes off the Reading line with the 7O26 Hinksey - Eastleigh engineers.

66538 passes through platform 5 heading for Ditton with the 4M58 Southampton Maritime - Ditton Intermodal.
