Eastleigh 27th January 2007 - Headz Out!!
This was in the Guards compartment of 2410 whilst at Poole. Not a shot you see everyday.
The bike racks in the 442's were hated as there was so much fumbling around with them to get you bike in or out.
This is what you can do when you have an MBLS all to yourself. Headz out* on a 442 beckoned.... MY LORDZ!! I travelled all the way from Poole to Southampton Central on the 09:01 with no one in the MBLS apart from me :)
This "Temporary Ticket office" was until recently to be found at Romsey. Its since been moved to the Network Rail area at Brockenhurst. Terry Wong Min, email me and I will send you the full un edited version if you so wish :)
With 2405 leading the way we are fast approaching Ashurst New Forest.
As we approach Totton 170305 is sat idling in Totton Down Goods Loop. This is the train I caught from Southampton Central to Eastleigh.
Days of old still represent themselves around the railway. This old Southern Railway Loading Gauge can still be seen guarding the entrance /exit to a long disused and raised section of line that used to go to Eling Wharf.
After leaving Totton we now start our approach to Southampton by crossing over the River Test and making out way to Redbridge. Again 2405 leads the way.
A nice shot of the container cranes at Southampton Container terminal. Also of the natural beauty of Dibden bay as we cross the River Test.
Next Redbridge and we pass the beginning of Southampton Maritime Freightliner Terminal with withdrawn and stored 47358 Ivanhoe languishing in the early morning sunshine.
Due to some fantastic weekend sunshine this shot was not originally going to be added onto the site but my mate Steven liked it so I have decided to leave it in. I wasn't happy with it as I spent a good 90 minutes trying to get it to a suitable light level. It doesn't help when the sun is shining directly at you!! In the shot you can see a brace of 66's and a 57. I nearly lost my Camera here as I was just holding onto it and did not have the strap around my neck... What a muppet!!
Still passing Soton Maritime we see 66579 and 57012 plus an unidentified 66 in the background. This was a point and click shot as I could see sod all through the lens finder due to the sun in my eyes!!
We pass 66504 on the up slow near Southampton Central. This was taken using the Camera on my Sony Ericsson W810i phone.
Having arrived at Eastleigh I left the confines of the station and nipped across to Bishop Stoke road bridge to get a shot of 73136 Perseverance and 66705 Golden Jubilee awaiting their next turn of duty. The 73 is used as a shunter when the 442's go into storage at Eastleigh.
Shortly after I took the above picture I could see a 57 arriving from the general direction of Winchester. 57002 Freightliner Phoenix runs into platform 3 with a service for Southampton Maritime. The first six of these locos are due to go off lease in 2007 from Freightliner. Then the next six are to go off lease sometime in 2008.
Apart from a few wagons, 450123 was my only other KOP for the day. Not a very good shot as its in full sunlight.
* The Web monkey would like to point out that the practice of sticking ones head out of a window on a moving train is not the best thing to do, and could well result in you becoming an early candidate for the Darwin Awards.
