London June 12th 2004

My trip to London was planned from really nothing. I originally planned to go to Eastleigh and get some photographic research for some more of the Eastleigh station area in conjunction with the Weymouth - Waterloo Trainz route which is currently in development. However after a look at the weather forcast I decided to go to London as it was forecasted to be sunny & hot ( about the only time the weathermen are right I suppose!!).
SO my intention was to visit most of the mainline termini these being Kings Cross, St. Pancras, Euston, Waterloo, Paddington and Liverpool Street. Although I never managed to get any pics at Paddington or Liverpool Street, I did intend to visit Victoria but never quite got there!!!! A few more Class 66 locos were kopped by me as well so all in all was a good day.

I would also like to dedicate this page to my mate's dad Terry Sammways who passed away on 06/06/04 after a brave fight against Leukaemia. I have lost a great mate and friend who will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace Terry.

First up I didn't see 73109 at Woking so wondered where it was. I was quite surprised to find this at Waterloo being used as a temporary buffer stop!!! South West Trains currently have only one of these class 73 locomotives, although South West Trains are earmarked for wanting some more to help with movemnets of the Class 444 / 450 Desiro's.

On to St.Pancras the new one that is, whilst the old St.Pancras gets refurbished ready for the London's "official" Eurostar International terminus, why they don't leave it at Waterloo I will never know!! 43069 & 43198 prepare to leave the new terminus.

Bit of a rare site of a Freightliner leased ex Virgin Class 47 at St. Pancras. I have no idea why this loco why 47843 Vulcan was there but it had about 3 - 4 people in the cab, one was a Thames Link shunter 2 Freightliner chaps and didn't get to see who the other one was.

Across the road literally GNER's home @ Kings Cross here 43167 bask's in the sunlight after arriving with an express.

Two shots of the Kings Cross Thunderbird loco. General Motors Class 67 67028 idles awaiting its next turn of duty.

On to Euston now and 390037 one of Richard Branson's Virgin Pendolino's awaiting its next turn of duty. These have a maximum speed of 140MPH but will mostly be run at 125 MPH along the West Coast mainline.

At Harrow & wealdstone not much stuff stops there. No freight or express passenger. Only local passenger trains stop there. Here 319006 starts away again on a Brighton to Watford Junction service.

Back down to Euston for my trip across to liverpool street and then onto Paddington and Reading I came across this odd fellow. 47840 North Star on the front of a train at Euston. The remaining Class 47's have not got any push pull mechanism's fitted to save with the costly run round procedure. This 47 was providing some great shots for other enthusiasts around the station as well.
